Why I said Wizkid disrespected Don Jazzy

In a recent interview on Wazobia TV, comedian and actor Mr Macaroni addressed his perspective on why he believed Wizkid’s comments about Don Jazzy were disrespectful. Macaroni acknowledged Don Jazzy’s significant influence in the entertainment industry, describing him as possibly “the biggest entertainment influencer we have in Africa.” He emphasized Don Jazzy’s pivotal role in shaping the music industry, from his early collaborations with artists like D’Banj and Wande Coal to the establishment of Mavin Records and the nurturing of talents like Tiwa Savage, Korede Bello, and Di’ja.

While Macaroni acknowledged Wizkid’s undeniable impact in the music industry, he felt that the context in which Wizkid referred to Don Jazzy as an “influencer” lacked reverence for Don Jazzy’s contributions. According to Macaroni, Don Jazzy’s influence transcends mere “influencer” status; he is a trailblazer and a champion whose imprint on the music industry cannot be overlooked.

Macaroni highlighted Don Jazzy’s versatility as an influencer, extending beyond music into content creation and filmmaking. He praised Don Jazzy’s accessibility and willingness to collaborate with up-and-coming artists, regardless of their follower count, showcasing his genuine passion for nurturing talent and fostering growth in the industry.

While Macaroni recognized Wizkid’s right to express himself, he believed that the manner in which Wizkid dismissed Don Jazzy as an “influencer” lacked tact and respect. He emphasized the need for artists to acknowledge the contributions of industry pioneers like Don Jazzy and Davido, rather than trivializing their achievements.

The controversy surrounding Wizkid’s remarks sparked debate among fans and celebrities alike, with many condemning Wizkid’s comments as disrespectful. However, Macaroni’s nuanced perspective shed light on the importance of recognizing and honoring the legacy of industry veterans like Don Jazzy, whose influence continues to shape the landscape of African music.
